If you've never taken your child to a chiropractor, it's normal to feel unsure about what happens behind that door. Here's what a first pediatric chiropractic visit actually looks like at Life Sprout Collective in Fairbanks — no mystery, no pressure.
It starts with a conversation
Before any table or adjustment, we sit down and talk. I want to hear the full story — your child's birth, their health history, what you're seeing now, and what you're hoping for. Parents often tell me this is the first time someone has asked about the whole picture instead of one symptom.
That conversation matters. The nervous system connects everything, and the patterns we're looking for live in the story.
A gentle, age-appropriate assessment
Next comes the assessment, and it's nothing like an adult visit. For an infant, it might be watching how they move, hold their head, and respond to touch. For a toddler, it's often play-based — watching them move through the room. For a school-age child, we add a few simple checks.
I'm looking at motion, tone, and how the nervous system is communicating — not chasing pain.
The first adjustment
Most kids receive their first adjustment that same visit, and almost every parent has the same reaction: "That's it?"
Pediatric adjustments use very light, specific pressure — often no more than you'd use to test a ripe tomato. There's no cracking, no forcing, no scary sounds. The goal is to restore motion and communication in the spine and nervous system, gently.
For babies, it can happen while they're in your arms. For older kids, it often looks like play.
You'll leave with a plan
Before you go, we'll talk through what I found, what we're working toward, and what a plan could look like. No pressure, no long contracts — just a clear picture of what's possible for your child's nervous system.
What to bring
Bring your questions, your child's favorite comfort item, and anyone who helps make decisions about their care. That's it.
